It always surprising to be reminded that Xiaomi, the company, is only a little over four years old. The company’s Co-Founder and President, Lin Bin, shared on his Facebook page that as of the recent first half of 2014, they were able to ship a whopping 21.6 million phones, raking in over 33 billion CN¥ (~17.02 billion MYR) in revenue.

“We have sold a total of 26.1 million phones in first half of 2014, with a revenue of 33 billion RMB. This is 271% growth on phone sold, and 149% growth on revenue compare to first half of 2013. Big thanks to all the mi fans and business partners. Without you, we wouldn’t have achieved so much,” said Bin.

To put the growth in perspective, Xiaomi sold 7.19 million phones in 2012 and another 18.7 million phones in the following year, 2013. That means they were able to ship more devices in the first half of this year, than they did on the whole of last year.

This rapid increase in sales numbers are greatly helped by Xiaomi’s decision to expand internationally beyond mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. This year alone, Xiaomi has been established in Singapore in February, and later in Malaysia in May. Just recently, it has also established base in Philippines and India.

If the company is able to keep to its schedule, it may be launching in seven additional countries this year alone — Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico (perhaps in that order). This is not to mention the mystery flags of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa, spotted at its customer service center.
