Redmi Note 3 was initially announced to the Chinese market in November of 2015. That model runs on MediaTek’s Helio X10 processor, which didn’t make a whole lot of sense since its predecessor, Redmi Note 2, is also using Helio X10 as well. A couple of months later in January 2016, Xiaomi introduced the Snapdragon 650 variant Redmi Note 3 with a hexa-core CPU that the company claims is superior in performance even to Snapdragon’s older 808 hexa-core CPU. There was a small event Mi Malaysia held on March 24th 2016 to inform the masses that it will be announcing the pricing and release date of the Redmi Note 3, Snapdragon edition, on March 29th at 12pm over at Mi Malaysia’s Facebook Page.
So here’s the deal. Both MediaTek and Snapdragon Redmi Note 3 types, come in 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage models, and each is supposed to come in Gold, Dark Gray, and Silver color options. That’s a total of 12 different variants. In China, the MediaTek 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model is CN¥899 (~RM557) while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model is CN¥1,099 (~RM682). As for the Snapdragon Redmi Note 3 models, they are CN¥999 (~RM619) for 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and CN¥1,199 (~RM743) for 3GB RAM + 32GB storage.
Curiously, though Redmi Note 2 doesn’t seem to be listed in China’s Mi.com site any more, Xiaomi said that the Redmi Note 2 will continue to be on sale in Malaysia even after its successor is out. That could mean two things — it’s either the 16GB Redmi Note 3 takes over the RM649 price tag and the Note 2 gets a price drop, or Note 2 retains its RM649 price and Note 3 gets a much higher price. If the former is true, then perhaps the 32GB Redmi Note 3 might have an asking price of RM749, RM779, or RM799. Or maybe Mi Malaysia hasn’t decided on the pricing structure yet, hence why it has been mum on this.

While we in Malaysia will be getting both 16GB and 32GB Redmi Note 3 models, we won’t get all the color options possible (remember that there are 12 possible combinations). The 32GB Redmi Note 3 Xiaomi passed to the media for review is Gold in color, so that’s one indication. The Silver color could be reserved for the 16GB model only, and Dark Gray could fall into either one.
Also, Xiaomi used to sell their devices here on Tuesdays, and since the company will be announcing the price on Tuesday, March 29th, perhaps sales may start a week later on Monday, April 4th, or Tuesday, April 5th. Redmi Note 2 went on sale on a Wednesday (November 11th, 2015), but then that’s to coincide with Singles’ Day.
If you’d like to find out more about Redmi Note 3’s features and its full list of specifications, you can read up on it over at our earlier coverage here. We might talk a bit more about the features of the Redmi Note 3 not immediately apparent from the specifications sheet, once the price and release date are announced this Tuesday.
