Its design is a departure from how Xiaomi Mi 3 looks like, now having a flat metallic perimeter, a steel chassis, and chamfered edges. The back is made out of a glossy polycarbonate material, with a visual textured pattern much like the one found on Huawei Ascend P7. But that’s not all, besides the default black and white color options, there will also be pre-customizable back plate options in granite, jade, marble, and wood designs.
There are three things to note before we move onto the LTE variants and the pricing. The first is that the Sony IMX214 image sensor used on the Mi 4 is the same found on OnePlus One and Oppo Find 7. The second is that though Mi 4 will start shipping with MIUI V5, MIUI V6 will arrive shortly on August 16th. The third is that Mi 4 comes with a Rapid Charger that goes at 9V and 1.2A. It will charge the Mi 4 from zero to 60% in one hour. For comparison, Oppo Find 7’s VOOC is at 5V and 4.5A, which charges the Find 7 from zero to 75% in just 30 minutes.
China Unicom will start selling the Xiaomi Mi 4 on July 29th, followed by other Chinese carriers in August. However this is the 3G, WCDMA variant. The Chinese’s TDD-LTE model will arrive two months later in September. Xiaomi promises an international FDD-LTE version, however no release date has been given yet.
The 16GB and 64GB Xiaomi Mi 4 phones are going for RMB1,999 and RMB2,499 respectively. Xiaomi Malaysia even shared that when they do arrive in Malaysia, both will only cost approximately RM1,099 and RM1,299 respectively. However, do keep in mind that this is for the WCDMA version, and the LTE variants will definitely cost more. More information about this phone here: http://www.mi.com/mi4 [Google Translate version].
