Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro

A little over a month ago, Xiaomi announces its Mi Ecosystem sub-brand with the debut product being a rice cooker. Finally, not only does it brought the Mi brand some sense (mi or 米 is rice millet in English), it is also one of the many Xiaomi devices that is touching on consumer electronics space, hoping to be a Samsung one day. But not forgetting its roots, on the same day, Xiaomi also announced its Redmi 3 Pro smartphone, as if the Redmi 3 isn’t already good enough for its price.

Redmi 3 Pro doesn’t stray too far from the Redmi 3 proper, but staying true to its ‘pro’ moniker, it bumps up a few specifications to make the former even more compelling. For starters, it now has a fingerprint scanner, perhaps making the Redmi 3 Pro one of the cheapest smartphones yet, with a fingerprint reader.

It keeps the same, massive 4100mAh non-user-removable lithium-ion battery, but bumps the memory from 2GB to 3GB, and the internal storage from 16GB to 32GB. Redmi 3 Pro’s processor is a version two of the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 (MSM8939v2). Everything else is pretty much identical to the Redmi 3 (even in its size and weight), except that this pro variant lacks the diamond-shaped lattice pattern, but I’m sure no one will miss that.

If anything, Redmi 3 Pro is to Redmi 3, like the Redmi 2 Enhanced is to the regular Redmi 2. While being an entry-level device to an already cheap Xiaomi device portfolio, Redmi 3 Pro disrupts the mid-range smartphone market, yet again, by offering the same hardware as its competition, for less.
