Xiaomi Redmi 2 was unveiled in early January this year to replace the Redmi 1/1S. The device is a worthy successor and looks great, except that the ones we got here in March is the lower-end variant, with just 1GB of memory and 8GB of internal storage. Well, Xiaomi Malaysia now has two good news for you.
The first came last week on July 6th. This entry-level Redmi 2’s price has been dropped by RM50, from RM449 at launch down to just RM399 now. It was the first Xiaomi device to run on a 64-bit processor, and a dual-4G SIM support. Being thinner and lighter than the Redmi 1S, it also replaces the glossy back with a “soft touch” matte back cover. Battery remains user-replaceable. The 1GB RAM Redmi 2 is still in stock today, which you can get over at http://www.mi.com/my/redmi2/.
You can probably guess what the second good news is. With the RM449 slot freed, Xiaomi Malaysia today announced that it’ll be releasing an “enhanced version” of Redmi 2 with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage this Thursday, July 16th, at 12pm. The price is for this variant is RM10 more though, at RM459.
It is almost identical to the lower-end Redmi 2, except the mentioned 2GB memory and 16GB storage, which make it a rather decent mid-range smartphone to own, considering its very competitive pricing. Heck, it even has quick charging. Here are some of its key specifications:
- Quad-core 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor
- 2GB RAM, 16GB flash storage
- MicroSD card slot (supports cards up to 32GB)
- 4G Dual SIM, Dual Standby
- 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 HD screen (312ppi)
- 8MP BSI f/2.2 rear camera / 2MP BSI front camera with 720p video recording
- 2200mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 1.0
However, though the 1GB Redmi 2 now comes in White and Dark Gray, it is still unclear whether the 2GB variant has the same color options, or just White for now.
In any case, if interested, get your accounts credentials oiled and credit cards polished, and get ready for the flash sale that’ll happen this Thursday at 12pm over at Mi.com/my.
